Speaker Biography

 

Prof. PAN is professor at the School of International Studies at Peking University and the Director of Center for Chinese & Global Affairs at SISS. He has a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in international politics from Peking University. He received his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley (1996). From 1985 to 1995 he worked as a Research Assistant at the Institute of World Economics and Politics at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) in Beijing.

AN Wei’s academic and professional work has focused on international relations, comparative politics, and Chinese politics. He is the author of many publications, including countless articles on Chinese politics and international affairs. He often is perceived as a stern Nationalist, but he is a supporter of the notion that the US needs China’s co-operation, but that China was to “create a new political civilization different from that of the West”.
